Style Sunday: Three Ways to Transition Summer Basics to Fall

I am someone who genuinely enjoys cooler weather, but one thing I used to miss is wearing some of my cute summer dresses and rompers! A light bulb went off a few years ago and I realized that rather than packing them up for Spring, I could just make them Fall ready. I am taking three different items (two dresses and a romper) and showing how they can be really versatile and cute when there is a chill in the air!

This polka dot maxi dress is a cutie from Old Navy in the Spring. This is the kind of dress that so many folks have in their closets and it is something that can easily be brought into the Fall by adding a thin turtleneck underneath (mine is from J. Crew Factory and is always on sale), and putting on a cute belt (mine is sold out unfortunately but here is a super similar set; mine also came in a pack of two) to give it a little more shape. I paired it with these adorable loafer mules from Target that I have been wearing almost every day since I got them. They are perfect dupes for the popular Gucci loafer mules without the price tag; these are only $23 versus $695!

A romper with a sweater over it is such a great way to make it ready for Fall! This particular romper is from Walmart (mine is sold out but here is a similar striped one for only $16.96) and has spaghetti straps, which would make it hard to wear alone when it's cold. I love pattern mixing (pro tip; stick to the same 2-3 colors to make it work and your look be cohesive), so I topped the romper with this adorable star sweater from Amazon. I topped it with a simple black hat (it is another Target fave) and finished it off with the best $15 Walmart pointed toe black flats (these are seriously SO comfortable; they have memory foam on the inside). Sean helped me take my photos and this was his favorite outfit! I so can see this being great for a chic but comfortable date night look.

Where are my Gossip Girl fans at? As soon as I put this outfit on, I felt like a funkier black version of Blair Waldorf! This is really taking two summer staples into Fall; a classic chambray shirt (my favorite one of all time is from Old Navy; it is busty folks friendly too!) and a short floral cotton sundress (this one is from Amazon and it was on constant repeat this summer). With the shirt buttoned up, adding some tights and combat boots (mine are these vegan leather boots from Nasty Gal), it takes these pieces from Summer to being totally Fall ready! I tend to be lukewarm on a lot of super trendy things, but one thing I have been absolutely loving is headbands coming back around, especially embellished ones. This sweet black velvet and pearl headband is from a pack of three (that's right, it came with beige and pink ones too)  that I bought from Amazon for only $15. It is the perfect way to add a little glam to any look.

I hope these looks gave you all some inspiration to transition some pieces from your wardrobe! Let me know in the comments about some of your own ideas, friends.
